Purpose

The role of GTI Analyst sits within the Smart Metering function of SP Energy Retail and its main purpose is to help fulfil the UK Governments agenda of all homes and small businesses in the UK having a Smart Meter installed by the end of 2020. ScottishPower has a requirement to specify and procure more that 8 million metering devices and ancillary pieces of equipment and to ensure that they remain interoperable and interchangeable throughout their life. In the role of GTI Analyst you will provide expertise and knowledge in Smart metering firmware/software to support the architecture and design of interfacing systems to ensure that all processes and procedures are interoperable and implemented in a safe and reliable manner.

Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain formal test procedures for devices operating under the following specifications: SMETS, ICHIS and GBCS
  • Maintain the test environment and test/triage infrastructure in ScottishPower’s Smart Metering device test lab.
  • Evaluate through analysis the performance of Wide Area Network (WAN), GPRS, Mesh Radio, Cellular solutions that provide connectivity with the Data Communications Company (DCC).  This will include Home Area Network (HAN) communications including but not limited to ZigBee and other low power radio solutions. 
  • Managing the firmware on devices operated by ScottishPower from test to through to implementation into production.
  • As delegated, create and maintain a system to control and manage firmware releases for all device types ensuring that known errors are clearly identified and mitigated against over the life of the device
  • Develop and implement verification programmes/tests to provide assurance that all devices achieve appropriate level of accreditation with all appropriate normative references e.g. ZigBee Alliance, DLMS(Device Language Message Specification), MID (Measuring  Instruments Directive), CPA (Commercial Product Assurance). 
Skills and Requirements
  • Educated in an appropriate Engineering and or Telecom based discipline
  • A background knowledge of the UK and European Metering and Telecommunications market, along with Metering Legislation
  • Working knowledge of activities of UK and European Metering Groups (including CENELEC, ESMIG, ESMA, UKMF, BEAMA, Elexon, AMO, NWML etc), and an understanding of HAN technologies
  • Knowledge of the latest versions of DLMS & SEP protocols, software techniques, languages and technologies.
  • Experience of DLMS and SEP ZigBee protocols sought
  • Ability to assist in the analysis and review of manufacturers test results and to conduct internal verification testing as required.
  • Software development experience in Windows and Linux. Experience with VB, nodeJS, bash, JSON and databases.
  • Experience of the lifecycle of embedded firmware for volume retailer products, along with experience in embedded software in relation to metering products
  • Demonstrate experience of change management and version control in line with ISO accreditation
  • Experience in software testing, including communication technologies, along with automated and hardware testing and documenting results
  • Creative approach to design and problem solving
  • To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate as a minimum’
  • Educated in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • Working knowledge of European metering legislation
  • Experience with a major utility or meter manufacture in the design, manufacture or procurement of gas and electricity meters, as well as software development experience
  • Experience of constructing test specifications and documenting results
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and deliver to agreed timescales and quality standards in a rapidly changing environment
What we offer

The role on offer is a Permanent contract. Salary for this role will be from £45,840 per annum. Other benefits for this role include a performance related bonus up to 10% and single cover health care.
