ScottishPower Renewables (“SPR”) Control forms part of our corporate functions that is responsible for providing support services for all SPR companies including onshore, offshore and emerging technologies.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced qualified accountant focussing on our current offshore growth. As we strive to deliver on our commitment to deliver 100% green energy, our East Anglia zone currently has a 714MW windfarm under construction and three other projects in various stages of development. This role is crucial in order to ensure these works are effectively controlled, accurately reported and held to budget.


In the Control and Reporting Manager we are looking for a passionate, self-motivated and driven accountant who ideally has experience encompassing both management and financial accounting. The role is responsible for monitoring spend against a £2.6bn budget for our East Anglia 1 project, with a direct business facing relationship which allows for a deep understanding of the projects progress and key challenges. The role is critical for understanding and providing high quality analysis on key fluctuations against forecasts, and identifying key risks that could hamper projected spend and key success factors.


In an ever changing environment you will have the ability to demonstrate your delivery focus with the provision of accurate, timely and robust financial reporting for the East Anglia companies. The Control and Reporting Manager is an imperative role in the SPR Control team for ensuring the identification, understanding and interpretation of key accounting judgements which could impact the financial statements for the East Anglia Projects.  To fulfill these needs the role would ideally be based from our London HQ; however the benefit of working within an international company is we have flexibility to welcome applicants based across the UK who would be willing to commute.


If you would be described as a pro-active individual who actively enjoys developing and working with others then this role could be an ideal match as initially you will have responsibility for one direct report to lead and support.  Furthermore building close, strong and productive relationships with the project teams and the SPR Control team and supporting services such as Treasury, Tax and Administration across the business.


Additional key aspects of the role will include managing relationships with a JV partner, interpreting and understanding the accounting impact of emerging government policy, balancing workloads to manage the process of accurate, timely and robust management reporting and managing the financial reporting of the East Anglia projects on a fully integrated International Accounting Standards (IAS) basis to meet specified deadlines thus previous demonstrable experience and knowledge of this would be expected.


This position has evolved and changed in recent times as the projects have developed and grown, therefore the ideal candidate will enjoy and thrive in a fast paced and innovative environment and would continue the Control and Reporting Manager evolution.

Skills and Requirements

  • Prioritises and anticipates issues and problems and puts in place effective strategies to manage
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts/issues to non-finance project staff
  • Computer literacy, including spreadsheet skills and ledger posting
  • An interest in financial systems - Sap experience is preferred
  • Delivery focused and driven
  • High level of resilience to deal with the changing demands and time-pressures of the role
  • Ability to work remotely as part of a larger team to ensure that the function is fully integrated
  • Ability to prioritise work and deliver accurately under acute time pressures
  • Self-starter, ability to identify and execute process improvement opportunities
  • A good understanding of the renewables markets


Minimum Criteria


To be Successful in this role you will need to demonstrate:

  • Qualified accountant with a demonstrable balance of PQE
  • High level of commercial awareness
  • Confidence, ability and presence to constructively challenge at all levels
  • Sound judgement and professional decision-making ability
