Lead Control Systems Architect - OSG

JOB SUMMARY

The organization of Global Smart Grid (GSG) under the Networks Business is responsible for the coordination and leadership of the technology evolution within Smartgrids. As a core piece of GSG, the organization of digital technologies is focused on systems, telecommunications and technologies. The position to cover is part of the control system applications within this organization. Responsible for Smart Grids applications architecture design, functional specifications, technical requirements, and associated project implementation oversight.

 

The Smart Grid application portfolio includes, but is not limited to the following applications:

  • Outage management systems, Outage reporting, Outage scheduling, Meter data collection, Meter data management, integration with control system platforms, dashboards/reporting tools, reliability indexes, etc.
  • Specifically will support the Real Time Applications technical and engineering elements associated with AVANGRID Control Systems as well as actively participate in the definition of requirements for Meter Data Collection (MDC) and Meter Data Management (MDM) in AMI projects.
  • Liaise with Global Smart Grids (hierarchical dependency) and Operational Smart Grids (functional dependency) on application of global practices will be a fundamental part of its role.
MAJOR ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Bring a global technical view to the different on-going projects with specific focus on CMP project, OMS Evolution & Enhancements and NY AMI.
  2. Active participation with country project managers covering the full Project life, from technical specifications to project deployment, go live and maintenance in order to align project with global requirements and needs.
  3. Define, document and confirm the contribution of the Real Time Applications to the business through coordination with the Electric Operations, Customer Service and Planning Managers and Supervisors for application development and enhancements, assuring coordinated application development within Global Smart Grid organization.
  4. Develop business specifications aligned with operation procedures. Active participation with the networks business areas involved in the deployment of the smartgrid, identification of requirements and future needs.
  5. Define and document Application Development, working with Avangrid’s existing software contractors to integrate the new versions. Draft design and software management policies if required.
  6. Develop country roadmap in Real Time application (OMS systems , MDC central systems for AMI architectures…) and related business applications interfaces.
  7. Align Avangrid and global SG requirements and roadmap through active participation in global meetings.
  8. Coordinate training activities for application users and the Trainers in the Electric Operations Group and coordinate with Global Technical Leaders.
Education & Experience Required
  • Associate’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Technology or a related field required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Equivalent work experience may be substituted.
  • At least five to six years of related experience in a technical environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory
  • Good knowledge of trouble/outage management systems
  • Working knowledge of computer applications and communications equipment
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and policies.
  • Experience in projects dealing with people and responsibilities from different countries
Skills/Abilities
  • Strong analytical, complex problem solving and successful negotiation skills
  • Experience with Information/Operations Technology design and implementation
  • Experience in building technical specifications and business processes procedures.
  • Experience and proactive mind and capacity to lead discussions with managers and senior technicians within the organization to meet priorities and resolve issues
  • Familiarity with software repository programs
  • Experience with Real Time systems such as Electric and Gas SCADA and infrastructure subject to regulation
  • Experience with network, server and desktop hardware and software technologies
  • Experience with remote access and wireless communications and technologies
  • Understands scripts and task scheduling mechanisms (triggers, automatisms, crontabs, validation rules, etc..).
  • Results oriented and proactive
  • Full availability to travel as it is a global position.
  • Social capacities to understand requirements and interact with people from the countries where Iberdrola Networks operates, training skills to teach the use of the technology and the best practices, flexibility to adapt to project pace, capacity to motivate.
  • Fluent in Spanish will be highly valuable for this position.
