Lead Analyst - Energy & Derivative Acctg

Provides leadership role for accounting, specifically in the areas of; revenue recognition involving cost allocations of indirect costs and their associated controls. Develops, prepares and analyses transactions that are of a specialized and complex in nature requiring knowledge of financial relationships and accounting principles and practices.

1. Analyzes and adjusts accounts monthly.  Responsible for reconciling general ledger accounts.  Prepares and inputs monthly journal entries and reviews accounting entries booked. Oversees the running of accounting reports from various software packages.  Ability to prepare and analyzes complex calculations.

2. Become a subject matter expert in items such as Unbilled Revenue, Accounts Receivables, Bad Debt Reserve and Revenues.  Develop a working knowledge of GAAP, FERC and IFRS principals as they apply to the department.

3. Develops, prepares and analyzes complex specialized calculations supporting complex revenue accounting transactions and prepares and processes such accounting transactions.

4. Provides primary support in the month-end closing process and prepares various energy related result analyzes.

5. Develops, prepares and processes gas commodity purchases and settlement adjustments.

6. Reviews and/or prepares and develops schedules used to support Iberdrola USA reporting requirements.

7. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of changes and proposed modifications in accounting policies, principles and procedures and updates processes and procedures accordingly.

Skills and Requirements

Education & Experience Required:


  • Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience preferred.
  • Associates Degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience required.
  • Advanced knowledge of applications and mainframe accounting systems is required.
  • Detailed knowledge of GAAP and utility industry practices.


  • Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of finance and accounting.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Project management skills.
