Senior Director - Offshore Project Services (REN 8357)

Overview

The US Project Services Director is a critical role within the Offshore Business focussing on the delivery of large-scale offshore wind projects in the US, working with Multinational Joint Venture Partner(s) and Contractors ensuring that Avangrid position is suitably protected in any agreements.


Belonging to the Global Offshore Project Services Direction and reporting to the Offshore Project Services Director and the Offshore US Director. Responsible for establishing a team of experts in US to define technical, logistical, resourcing and contracting strategies, determining CAPEX budgets for projects, tendering, negotiating and managing multi-million offshore delivery contracts.


The US Project Services Director would work closely with each project, ensuring their development from the early phases, through detailed design definition, construction and commissioning. The Project Services Direction provides the technical support to the projects, maintaining adequate numbers of staff and competencies to meet the business plan.


The individual will be working as part of a global business with activities in US, being well coordinated with the global offshore business to implement processes and lessons learnt and to share experiences. The position may require travels to various locations in the US and overseas to Europe, and during development, contracting and delivery of projects (large packages) the individual should be prepared to manage teams working at different countries and project locations.


The US Project Services Director will be part of the top management of the offshore business in Avangrid and therefore it is expected to participate and add value in all the business activities in the US.

Key Responsibilities
  • All Avangrid offshore wind farms to be supported with processes, systems, technical resource and project management resource to enable design / execution / construction to the highest industry standards maximising the returns for the company during the whole life cycle of the project.
  • All Avangrid offshore wind farms are to develop adequately balanced risk profiles through the design of the projects.
  • All Avangrid offshore wind farms to be constructed to highest industry standards.
  • The Project Services Direction shall hold competent staff of all levels to matrix into each of the offshore wind projects.
  • Develop resourcing strategies to manage resource demand through peaks and troughs.
  • Manage and maintain the competencies, training and development of the project services staff.
  • Develop, hold and control the necessary processes and procedures required to develop and construct each offshore windfarm.
  • Projects shall comply and follow the standard processes and procedures. A level of oversight and audit is required.
  • Provide projects with innovative ideas and problem solving as required.
  • Project business cases are to be supported with detailed assessments across all project and installation management disciplines.
  • Maintain the highest standards of H&S on projects and develop technical/design procedures and processes and continually strive for continual improvement.
  • Represent the business within industry and take part in industry wide initiatives
  • Transfer knowledge and lessons learned between projects striving for continual improvement.
  • Plan and centralise resource management across the Offshore Business in US.
  • Standardise and hold the design management model and procedures to allow each project to tap into these processes in a consistent manner.
  • Ensure all Avangrid offshore wind farms are designed according to highest industry standards to maximise the returns for the company during the whole life cycle of the project.
  • Manage and support R and D activities within the global business and in industry.
  • Project business cases are to be supported with detailed technical assessments across all disciplines e.g. energy yield estimations, site assessment studies; wind turbine selection; civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical design; technology assessment and selection (grid connection, foundation type, voltage levels etc.); contracting strategy, marine operations, geological ground models, weather downtime and operability assessments, offshore installation strategies, ports and logistics evaluation, commissioning, etc.....
  • Ensure a proper coordination between US Project Services and the global offshore Project Services, implementing in US the general procedures of the business and coordinating the key decisions of projects and business.
  • Implement specific strategic plan for resourcing, market engagement and technical capacitation of the offshore project services team in US.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Extensive technical and practical knowledge of offshore wind technology.
  • Extensive experience in management of large multidisciplinary teams.
  • Extensive experience in management of large multidisciplinary contracting strategies.
  • Proven track record delivering large, complex, multidisciplinary designs and execution of works in an offshore environment.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and offshore regulations.
  • Knowledge of health and safety and environmental legislation associated with construction projects.
  • Proven capability of delivering against multiple targets.
  • Pro-active and diligent approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Good organizational and operational skills with the ability to link this awareness to contractual judgement and decision making.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to a rapidly changing in working environment and demonstrate a positive approach to change.
  • High degree of self-motivation with a flexible approach to work.
  • Computer literate with a good working of Microsoft office applications as well as an ability to deal with new software.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree plus 15 years' experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and other IT based project management software.
  • Flexible to travel around US and to Europe.
  • Proven track record delivering complex multi-discipline projects.
