Reports to Deputy CEO, Vineyard Wind

Grade: K1 

Based in Boston, MA.

Scope of Work 

The Sr. Project Director will lead the 804 MW Park City Wind offshore wind project ("Project") within the Avangrid Renewables/Iberdrola Offshore Business. The Sr. Project Director is a critical role within the Offshore Business focusing on the execution and delivery of large-scale offshore wind projects working with multinational joint venture partner(s) and contractors.

The Sr. Project Director has overall responsibility to ensure a safe and successful project delivery which includes engineering, contracting, construction and project management. The Sr. Project Director will ensure that Health & Safety is paramount in all considerations, delivered on time, on budget while meeting the required quality standards, close liaison with internal & external stakeholders, management and coordination of internal and external resources supported by an innovative contracting strategy.

Responsibilities 

  • Overall decision maker for all Project matters and seeks executive sign-off where required.
  • Manage multi-billion-dollar Project and multi-million-dollar contracts.
  • Develop a clear delivery strategy for the Project maximizing the business capabilities.
  • Execute an innovative contracting strategy designed to drive the maximum value for the business case while maximizing local content.
  • Drive key project control processes, procedures and reporting to ensure a strong governance culture is in place.
  • Implement all standard offshore business processes and procedures to enable design, execution, and construction to the highest industry standards maximizing the returns for the company during the whole life cycle of the Project, while maintaining superior H&S standards.
  • Build and lead the Project team to effectively deliver a world class project.
  • Communicate effectively with state and local officials, community leaders, and other key stakeholders on project development.
  • Manage and motivate multicultural and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Ensure compliance of the standard processes and procedures to the Project. A close level of oversight and audit is expected.
  • Ensure the Project gets all permits to be constructed. Prepare the Project and sites for the Operational phase.
  • Ensure the highest standards of H&S are in place on the Project and develop technical/design procedures and processes and continually strive for improvement.
  • Lead cost reduction, optimization, and cost efficiencies throughout the Project.
  • Deals with the senior leadership team attending and presenting at regular senior management meetings.
  • Close management and liaison with multiple stakeholders at various levels. Coordinates and supports key expertise from within the offshore business.
  • Collaborates with all departments to ensure necessary input into the contract strategy and business case.

Education and Experience

  • Degree and/or professional qualification in a relevant discipline – Project Management or Mechanical/Electrical/Marine Engineering
  • Experience in leading a large-scale power generation project (minimum 300 MW) from start to completion
  • Professional qualification in Project Management
  • International experience
  • Extensive experience in management of large multidisciplinary, multicultural teams
  • Proven track record delivering large, complex, multidisciplinary designs and execution of works in an offshore environment
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and offshore regulations
  • Knowledge of H&S, regulatory and environmental legislation associated with construction projects
  • Experience in long term planning horizon and scheduling for all contracting activities relating to project delivery
  • Experience in implementation of business plan and setting annual team and individual goals, managing reviews and performance
  • Experience in formulating and gaining approvals for project investment cases and annual budgets then managing controlling and forecasting

Skills and Abilities

  • IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and other IT based project management software
  • Flexible to travel to Europe and to wherever suppliers are located
  • Proactive, agile, and diligent approach
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent report writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deliver against tight deadlines
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to link commercial awareness to contractual judgement and decision making
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and build consensus in decision making
  • Ability to adapt quickly to a rapidly changing in working environment and demonstrate a positive attitude to change
  • High degree of self-motivation with a flexible approach to work
  • Ownership mindset while striving for rigor
